More Hockey in Eagle River

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

Many of our guests this weekend are participating in the 13th Annual Ice Masters Classic 3-on-3 hockey tournament in Eagle River. This year the tournament includes 64 teams, competing at the Mite, Squirt, PeeWee, Bantam and Girls U16 levels. It is always the last weekend in March and is a fun way to end the hockey season. If you have a young hockey star, plan on participating in this tournament next year.  Also, check out the Eagle River Summer Hockey School. This program is ranked with the best in the country. If you are from out of town, enjoy a family vacation at the Wild Eagle Lodge while your child attends classes during the day.

Spring is Finally Here!

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

Although it is the first day of spring it did not feel like it this morning! I guess I was a little spoiled by all the nice 50+ degree weather we have been having here in the Northwoods. The day has warmed up nicely and there is a blue sky with only a few white clouds in it. The weather this past week has been great; I took my bicycle out of storage and had it tuned up for the season. I even got in the first ride of the season on Thursday; I stuck mostly to the road as the trails in the woods still need a few days to dry out. Since it is the first day of spring why don’t you let me know what your favorite Northwoods spring activity is?

March Madness

Eagle River Ice Rink and home of the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame

Eagle River Ice Rink and home of the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame

It is the best time of the year for college basketball fans, with everyone picking their teams and filling out their brackets. Last year was not a good year for me; all of my final four teams were knocked out by the second round. Maybe it’s a sign I should stick to football and that basketball is just not the sport for me. But, I do want to wish all you die-hards out their good luck with your brackets! Let me know who you think is going to win the NCAA tournament this year.

Since we are on the subject of tournaments, there is a great youth 3 on 3 hockey tournament here in Eagle River next weekend. The Ice Masters 3 on 3 tournament is the longest running 3 on 3 tournament of its kind anywhere. The Eagle River Recreation Association is hoping for 70 to 75 teams this year playing in the fast-paced ½ court tournament. If you would like more information or to register a team for the event, visit the Eagle River Recreation Association web page. Even if you are not playing this is a great event to come out and watch. Another great event coming up this weekend is the Silver Blades Ice Show, an annual show put on by our local figure skating club. I’ll give you a full preview of the Silver Blades Ice Show tomorrow. See you then!

Spring at Wild Eagle Lodge

Spring at Wild Eagle Lodge

With the weather in the 40s to 50s all week it is hard not to think that spring has arrived in the Northwoods. The snow is starting to melt and all around people are out enjoying the weather. I don’t know if we will get our usual spring snowstorm or not this year, but I can say I am really enjoying this early spring right now. I’ve fired up the grill the past couple of nights and I can’t wait until my fire pit peeks its way through the snow so I can have the first campfire of the year. If you want to come up and take part in some spring fun we are offering some great specials right now. Don’t forget to make your Spring Break and Easter plans as well.

Honeymoon

Hello brides to be!

As each new bride and groom begin planning their wedding details I meet with them at Wild Eagle Lodge a few months before their big day.  I adore meeting with each of the bride’s to hear to their wedding day details as each one has her own unique and creative ideas!

This week I met with the first bride of the summer season and her mother.  Kjirsti had a lot of great questions and her plans are all falling into place beautifully.  From the complimentary rehearsal picnic to be held at our campfire/picnic area located on Lynx Lake; to the complimentary gift opening to be held in her event tent the day after, I can easily envision what her special day will entail.

I have a question that I would like to ask all of you newlyweds or newly engaged!  How many of you either had a champagne fountain at your reception or how many would like to have a champagne fountain at your reception?  I would love to hear back from anybody about their opinion on this topic as it will help me with future wedding receptions!

Thanks & have a wonderful day!
