Sno-cross racer at the World Championship Derby

Sno-cross racer at the World Championship Derby

Well Saturday is winding down at the Derby Track here in Eagle River, and the championship races are set for tomorrow. It was a great day to be at the races, unlike years past the weather was cooperating with highs in the 20s today. I drove through Eagle River earlier in the day and the parking lots were full and there were snowmobiles parked all along the way. Tomorrow has the last round of qualifiers and then the championship races for the different classes. We’ll let you know the winners as soon as they are announced. Good luck to all the racers, hope you make it out to the races. Don’t forget that the ice oval championships are next week.

Weekend Snowmobile Trail Update for Eagle River, WI

Wild Eagle Lodge after a snowstorm

Wild Eagle Lodge after a snowstorm

Well the first weekend of the 2009 – 2010 snowmobile season is upon us here in Eagle River and we could not be happier. I went out on Wednesday for a quick ride when the trails opened and had a great time. Of course I spent two hours getting my sled ready for the season and only got to go for a one hour ride, but I’ll make up for it before the snow is gone. I had a great time this year because a squirrel decided to make a nest right by my air intake; it took some patients to pick all the little bits of leaves out of everything. But the old Polaris is up and running for another season. Later today Derek, Julie, and I will be making a snowshoe trail around the resort for our new snowshoe rentals. We are hoping to have a mile long trail around the resort so the next time you are up be sure to try it out.

Here is the latest trail update:

SNOWMOBILE LAND TRAILS ARE OPEN & GROOMED!

The Catfish Lake & Eagle Lake Trails are closed waiting for more ice to build. Stay tuned for opening.

Trail 10/13N has private landowner logging going on. From Eagle River riding north & then west over the Wisconsin River Bridge after you cross the bridge & come out on the west side there is a section that is plowed. It is marked with logging ahead signs. So be aware of that. This logging crew will be in there about 4 weeks.

It’s the start of the weekend! THINK SNOW & COLD!

See ya on the trails on Saturday!

Hope everyone has a great weekend, talk to you soon.

Here’s this mornings trail report:

It’s 8:20 am & the TRAILS IN VILAS COUNTY ARE OFFICIALLY SANCTIONED & OPEN! In Sno-Eagles Country we did not open the two lake trails as there is not enough ice.  Please stay tuned for more information on the opening of those two trails.

All trails in Sno-Eagles Country were groomed last night & from what I saw of Trail 10E they are smoooooooth! Time to get out & ride, see you on the trails this weekend!

The next time you’re in the area stop by the Snowmobile Hall of Fame in St. Germain. It is fascinating to see the history of the snowmobile that developed right here in the Northwoods. Trace Carl Eliason’s invention of the first motor toboggan. Modern snowmobiles are directly traceable to the original hand built, 1924 Carl Eliason machine. It is said that his machines directly influenced Polaris, which in turn influenced Artic Cat, Fox Trac, Tee Nee Trailer and all rear engine designs that came along in the early 1960’s. It was after this that snowmobiling developed into the recreational sport we know and love today.

Snowmobile Trail Report

Monday, December 14th, 2009

I awoke to a beautiful snowfall this morning. It looked as though I was inside a snow globe.  My six year old enjoyed trying to catch snowflakes with his tongue while he was waiting for the school bus. Ok, I admit I tried it too.  The fresh snow just makes me feel like a kid again. Everyone is itching to get the Eagle River snowmobile trails open so they can go out and have some fun too. Here’s the latest trail report:
VILAS COUNTY TRAILS SET TO OPEN DECEMBER 16TH. In Eagle River SNOW EAGLE COUNTRY that means LAND BASED TRAILS ONLY. Lake trails will be marked when ready. More SNOW this morning! SNOWING right now with over 2 inches of new SNOW. Pretty heavy snow fall. Will give you totals tomorrow.

The last of the 11 clubs are being inspected today & tomorrow. Sno-Eagles Country was inspected on Friday & we are all set to go.

Get ready to start the sleds. No wait load ‘em up on the trailers, hook up the trailer, start the truck & come on up on Wednesday!

See ya on the trails really soon. I can hardly wait!

Wild Eagle Lodge is still running our quiet season special through this weekend so take advantage of the great rates and hit the fresh snowmobile trails.
