Looking out the office window

Looking out the office window

October 10,2009 I am looking out the office window at Wild Eagle Lodge and seeing the ground covered with white snow. It comes as the fall colors are peaking. It started snowing earlier this morning, it has stopped now and the sun is peaking out but they are still saying we could get 4-6 inches. It is a quick reminder that winter is just around the corner.  For those  of us that love the winter months we start thinking about the snowmobiling, ice fishing, snowshoeing and other activities that we will be doing soon.

Wild Eagle Lodge

Wild Eagle Lodge

During the summer Discover Wisconsin was out filming an episode on Eagle River Wisconsin, you may recognize some of the scenery as part of it was filmed around the Wild Eagle Lodge property. This is a great episode if you are looking into a trip to the Eagle River area as it shows some of the great events and attractions that bring people up to the Northwoods and Wild Eagle Lodge. There is a nice clip on the USA Pond Hockey Championships that are hosted a few miles from Wild Eagle Lodge every February, as well as some great clips of the Chain of 28 Lakes that makes Eagle River famous. Keep your eyes open as a few of our guests are in the shots as well. If you want to watch the episode the link is here, just select the Eagle River Episode from the list: Eagle River: Great Times Come with the Territory

New Roofs

New Roofs going onto the Lazy Lynx building

New Roofs going onto the Lazy Lynx building

As you can see from the picture we are getting new roofs here at the Wild Eagle Lodge. They only had five years on them but as some of you may remember we had a hail storm here last Memorial Day Weekend. For those of you who did not know we had a nice spring storm with some golf ball size hail that did a little damage to the roofs around town. We did not receive that much damage here so we were able to put it off until now. We are hoping to have all of the roofs replaced before the snow flies as long as the weather cooperates with us for a little while. Cranberry Fest was a little cold this year but there were still plenty of people out taking part in the event. I was out there Sunday working in the beer garden and I got to stock up on a few pounds of fresh cranberries for the holidays. If you missed this year’s event you can plan for next year now, Cranberry Fest is always the first weekend in October.

Picture of a moose taken near Conover WI, just a few miles from Wild Eagle Lodge

The Northwoods is known for the wildlife that calls the area home, but as you can see from the picture we are getting some new friends. This picture was taken just a few miles north of wild Eagle Lodge in Conover of a young moose. I guess you never know what you are going to see on a drive thru the forest. This weekend is also Cranberry Fest here in Eagle River and is one of the largest events in the area. There will be numerous crafters, cranberry themed food and beer, and you can stock up on fresh cranberries by the pound. If you don’t have anything to do this weekend you should come up and check it out. Hope to see you there.
