Snowmobile trail near Wild Eagle Lodge

Snowmobile trail near Wild Eagle Lodge

I hope everyone had a happy holiday and that Santa left a good present under your tree. As I look out the window here at the resort it is snowing again. We are supposed to see a lot of the white stuff in the upcoming days here in Eagle River. We got about 8 inches of snow on the 24th followed by a day of winter mix which changed back to snow. I went out riding on the 25th and the trails were in good condition, the little rain we got packed the snow down for a good base and the few snow flurries we have received since then are keeping them in good condition. Cooler temps at night are freezing the base, but the lake trails are still closed. The groomers are out every night keeping the snowmobile trails in shape for the holiday rush. Hope to see you out there!

Wild Eagle Snowshoe Trail

Julie and Derek out on the Wild Eagle Snowshoe Trail

Julie and Derek out on the Wild Eagle Snowshoe Trail

Yesterday afternoon Julie, Derek, and I went out and made the Wild Eagle Snowshoe Trail. The trail follows the shoreline along the resort grounds and then loops through some of the wooded area by Lynx Lake. It is a nice easy trail to start out on if you have not used snowshoes before, and at a length of just over ¾ a mile it takes about 30 minutes to walk the whole thing. The trail follows some deer paths around the resort so there is a great opportunity to see some wildlife as well. We came across a few spots where our local deer had been bedding down for the night. One truly unique feature of our resort trail is that it has lighting which will allow you to go out and snowshoe under the night sky. Click here for more information on the Wild Eagle Snowshoe Trail or our snowshoe rentals. Have a great weekend everybody.

Weekend Snowmobile Trail Update for Eagle River, WI

Saturday, December 19th, 2009
Wild Eagle Lodge after a snowstorm

Wild Eagle Lodge after a snowstorm

Well the first weekend of the 2009 – 2010 snowmobile season is upon us here in Eagle River and we could not be happier. I went out on Wednesday for a quick ride when the trails opened and had a great time. Of course I spent two hours getting my sled ready for the season and only got to go for a one hour ride, but I’ll make up for it before the snow is gone. I had a great time this year because a squirrel decided to make a nest right by my air intake; it took some patients to pick all the little bits of leaves out of everything. But the old Polaris is up and running for another season. Later today Derek, Julie, and I will be making a snowshoe trail around the resort for our new snowshoe rentals. We are hoping to have a mile long trail around the resort so the next time you are up be sure to try it out.

Here is the latest trail update:

SNOWMOBILE LAND TRAILS ARE OPEN & GROOMED!

The Catfish Lake & Eagle Lake Trails are closed waiting for more ice to build. Stay tuned for opening.

Trail 10/13N has private landowner logging going on. From Eagle River riding north & then west over the Wisconsin River Bridge after you cross the bridge & come out on the west side there is a section that is plowed. It is marked with logging ahead signs. So be aware of that. This logging crew will be in there about 4 weeks.

It’s the start of the weekend! THINK SNOW & COLD!

See ya on the trails on Saturday!

Hope everyone has a great weekend, talk to you soon.

It’s that time of year again here at Wild Eagle Lodge.  Holiday parties are in full swing at Boondocker’s Lounge and the staff and I here at Wild Eagle are enjoying every moment of the holiday cheer!  We have hosted intimate parties of 15 people all the way up to large get-togethers of 140 guests.  Brett & Frisk played to a packed house last evening for a holiday party and we are looking forward to seeing Santa for a private get-together this Friday.  The group party on Friday will enjoy a sleigh ride before they arrive here at the resort….nothing says Christmas like a sleigh ride with hot cocoa!!!  If you are interested in booking your own holiday get-together please give me a call or email me here at Wild Eagle!

In addition, Boondocker’s will host its annual resort New Year’s Eve bash on December 31st.  We’re looking forward to an evening of complimentary appetizers, cocktails, and the DJ will rock the house.  In addition, the champagne toast at Midnight always caps the night off for me before my bedtime!

Enjoy the snow- Heather

The next time you’re in the area stop by the Snowmobile Hall of Fame in St. Germain. It is fascinating to see the history of the snowmobile that developed right here in the Northwoods. Trace Carl Eliason’s invention of the first motor toboggan. Modern snowmobiles are directly traceable to the original hand built, 1924 Carl Eliason machine. It is said that his machines directly influenced Polaris, which in turn influenced Artic Cat, Fox Trac, Tee Nee Trailer and all rear engine designs that came along in the early 1960’s. It was after this that snowmobiling developed into the recreational sport we know and love today.
