Photo taken on trail 8 west heading to Boulder Junction on 1/27/10

Yesterday I went out and put 100 miles on the old Polaris and I was pleasantly surprised by the trail conditions. We started off just north of Eagle River and headed up 13, the trails close to town were in poor condition. The groomers have been out and the trails were flat for the most part, but could use some snow. The conditions improved once we got to the trail 13 loop and out towards Conover. Again, in Conover close to the city and the 45/12 intersection the trails were in fair to poor condition. However, once we hit 8 the trails were measurably better and went from fair to good conditions with long stretches where we were riding on smooth white snow. We turned around in Boulder Junction and headed back the same way until we got close to Eagle River and we took 3 back into town. The same story repeated itself, the closer we got into town the conditions fell off. There were stretches of 3 that were in good shape, especially were there was not heavy tree cover and the new snow fell on the trails. Overall it was a great day of riding and everyone in the group was surprised by how good the trails were and impressed with what the groomers did with what they had to work with. This morning I talked with some guests who had been out and they said the same thing about heading towards Phelps, once you got out of town and the heavily used trails the conditions improved.

If you are looking for a good ride though I would recommend going out on 8 towards Boulder Junction, round trip is going to be just less than 100 miles. If you are looking for a longer loop stay on trail 8 and head out to Manitowish Waters and stop by the Little Bohemia Lodge and take in some Dillinger history. As many of you may know the movie Public Enemies had a few scenes shot right at the Little Bohemia, not to mention it’s a great spot to stop and grab lunch. Round trip for this ride will be about 140 to 150 miles; I’m going to try to make that run next week. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Wild Eagle Lodge after a snow storm

Wild Eagle Lodge after a snow storm

I am going to hop on the old Polaris on Wednesday and put a few miles on. I’ll give you a full report on what I find on Thursday morning for the weekend. Check out the snowmobile trail update from the Sno-Eagles below.

Here is a trail update from the Sno-Eagles:

Monday morning and we do have new snow in Eagle River. Overall the trails are in FAIR condition, especially away from town and in the big woods. The way it snowed yesterday we should have a foot on the ground, but it was very wet and moisture filled. We ended up with 2-3 new inches of snow on the ground. It is snowing again this morning.

Temperature will continue to drop all day. Eight degrees for an overnight temperature with a high of thirteen tomorrow and below zero tomorrow night. This will continue all week.

Trail Boss Tom will fire up the groomers tonight. All 100 miles of trails in Sno-Eagles Country will be panned tonight. The old crusty snow is now covered with new wet snow. The wet snow breaks down that crusty stuff allowing the panning to really smooth things out. The cold coming in will set up the trails so that any snow we get will show more & more improvement to the trails.

Hard to rate the trails, all sorts of conditions out there. Fair is what I am going to average them out. In town they are poor. All trails are icy.

Keep doing the SNOW DANCE & THINK COLD! I can’t hear you! Let’s keep that sun under wraps too!

See ya on the trails!

Julie snowshoe 017

Greetings all!

This is Heather Beach, Director of Group Sales here at Wild Eagle Lodge.  As I gear up to welcome summer bus tours it occurred to me many people don’t know about the great winter activities Wild Eagle Lodge offers to tour groups and other guests in the winter time!  Here at the resort we offer ice fishing (with equipment to use), a snowshoe trail with snowshoe rentals, winter bonfires, and more!  Plus if you are interested in a little exploring we recommend snowmobiling the area on over 500 miles of trails!  In addition, there are many public and private cross country skiing and snowshoeing trails in the area.

Beyond all of the great outdoor activities the area has to offer, there are also a lot of indoor activities.  Groups can visit the many museums in the area, visit a casino for the day, or shop the quaint shops and galleries that are scattered through the Northwoods!  After a busy day of activities most of our guests like to return to Wild Eagle to enjoy a drink in our lounge or cozy up by their lodge home fireplace.  Winter at Wild Eagle Lodge is truly magical, come and experience it for yourself today!  If you’re interested in tour group information give me a call personally or click here to visit our group page on the Wild Eagle Lodge website!

Well another championship weekend in Eagle River is over and the staff at Wild Eagle Lodge would like to congratulate Matt Schulz from Wausau on winning the 2010 World Championship. It was a great weekend out at the track; this year had some of the best weather in recent memory. Follow these links to see the full list of winners for both the Ice Oval events as well as the Sno-Cross events (Oval Races | Sno-Cross Races). The warm weather did not help the snowmobile trails much, but the groomers were out last night and there is snow in the forecast for later in the week. For the full snowmobile trails report visit our trail conditions page. Don’t forget about the great specials we are offering through 2/10/2010.

Honeymoon

Hi I’m Tammy Madl, Group Sales Representative and resident wedding expert here at Wild Eagle Lodge. Below is a list of my top recommendations for the newly engaged.

1)    Determine how big or small you want your wedding/reception to be and stick to it!

2)    Select your wedding attendants.

3)    Choose a date that would work best for you and your fiancé.

4)    Tour and confirm a ceremony/reception site as soon as possible……How about Wild Eagle Lodge?

5)    Choose an officiant and other professionals such as photographer, disc jockey or band, florist, baker, etc.

6)    Shop for bridal gown, bridesmaid’s dresses and tuxedos.

Once you have these main items figured out and confirmed – all the other details will fall into place. Your wedding day should be the most special and memorable day of your life. Enjoy every minute of the planning stages. It will go by quicker than you think. Most important – have a wonderful wedding day and a beautiful ever after!

AMSOIL World Championship Snowmobile Derby is only a few days away!!!

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Greetings all, Heather Beach here from the Wild Eagle Lodge Group Sales department.  Derby weekend is almost here and we have gotten roughly two inches of fresh snow and it’s still coming down!  We are looking forward to seeing all of the corporate sponsors and racers this week who are coming in for the AMSOIL World Championship Snowmobile Derby.  I was out at the Derby Track this past weekend for the vintage races and had a great time visiting with the many teams who stay here at Wild Eagle Lodge.  The speed that these vintage snowmobiles race at is amazing…they have to be a 1985 model or older to qualify!  I look forward to seeing many familiar faces out at the Derby this weekend, it will be great weather so sled over for some fun!

All the best- Heather
