The Perfect Romantic Getaway.

Saturday, January 15th, 2011

As Valentines Day approaches we are getting a lot of calls wondering what there is to do in the Northwoods for a romantic getaway!  At Wild Eagle Lodge we like to offer our guests the Sweetheart Package during this time.  With this package you can enjoy romantic evenings in a one bedroom whirlpool lodge home where you will be able to cozy on up next to a gas fireplace.  To make this a romantic trip that will always be remembered, this package also comes with chocolates, wine, and a gift certificate to The Riverstone restaurant.

Spend the day together enjoying the Northwoods. Wake up and take a beautiful stroll on our snowshoe trail located on the grounds.  Next you can head into town and stop at the magnificent Ice Castle where you can take the perfect Valentine’s Day picture!  After that, have dinner at The Riverstone and then end the night with some wine and chocolates while sitting in front of the fireplace.  The Northwoods is a beautiful place for a romantic getaway so give us a call and we would be happy to help make your reservation.

World Championship Snowmobile Derby

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

The Snowmobile Derby is just around the corner and is hosting two different styles of racing; ice-oval and sno-cross.  The Derby is one of the most highlighted events during the winter; spectators and racers come from all over the US and Canada to participate.  The Derby lets you choose if you want to watch the race side by side with other race fans or you can enjoy the hot seats and private suites indoors.  Make sure you mark your calendars for January 7th-January 16th so you can see for yourself why spectators return year after year.

Another great thing you can do when you’re not attending the races is hitting the trails for yourself.  The trails are beautifully groomed in the Northwoods and we have three great recommended rides to tell you about!  Our first recommendation is known as the Gangster Run which will bring you to Boulder Junction.  On this ride make sure to make a pit stop at The Little Bohemia Lodge for lunch.  This was also the site where John Dillinger and his gang had the epic shoot out with the F.B.I.  The second trip is known as the Hall of Fame Run.  This ride will take you to the Snowmobile Hall of Fame and it is surely something you don’t want to miss out on.  The last trail ride that we recommend is the Lunch Run which takes you North of Land O’ Lakes and you can enjoy a great lunch at the Black Oak Inn.

If you have any questions please give us a call here at the Wild Eagle Lodge and we would be happy to assist you.

“It’s a Small World” from Long Island, NY.

Wednesday, January 12th, 2011
I received the following message from past guest Peter Z. who lives in Long Island, NY. Peter was a participant in a Wild Eagle Lodge Ice-Fishing School.  He sends me regular updates of his fishing adventures. The following happened on a trip to the tip of Long Island for some surf fishing:
“You’ll get a kick out of this story. My friends and I stopped in at a local restaurant for some lunch. We were sitting outside at picnic tables. Across from us was a husband & wife with their daughter who looked as though she was in her early 20s. The guy leans over and asks me, “Hey, are you from Eagle River?” “No,” I said “although I visited the area a few years back….how could you possibly know that?” He points to me hat which says “Wild Eagle Lodge // Eagle River, WI” It turns out that he and his wife are from the area and they were visiting their daughter who now lives in Brooklyn after having recently graduated from a NYC college.
They invited me over to their table and we did, of course, talk a bit of ice fishing. Really nice people although I must say I tend to now have a bias in favor of anyone from Wisconsin….”
It’s a small world!

Derek
